Who are you?

My name is Dr. Angela Sharma. I'm a GP menopause specialist and a clinical sexologist, and I'm the co-founder of Spice Per Health and Online Menopause and Sexology Clinic. When I'm not working, which most of the time, then I'm usually catching up on my Netflix or dreaming about running another marathon.

What is your background?

So I am a GP and I work in London and I'm the lead there for women's health and I run a menopause clinic there as well in my NHS practise. So I see loads of women with menopause day in, day out, also on the British Menopause Society Medical Advisory Board, and I'm an accredited British Menopause Society menopause specialist. And in my private clinic I see a lot of menopause women there at Spice Pair Health. And then I'm also a clinical sexologist and always people ask me what is a clinical sexologist? And it just means that I'm trained in both the psychosexual therapy side and the medical side of sexual problems. And the other role that I have, I have quite a few roles. The other role that I have is that I'm a trustee of the Menstrual Health Project, which is a charity that gives a lot of education support to women who suffer from menstrual health problems. And I support a lot of the work that they do.

What is menopause?

The menopause is derived from the Greek word men, meaning month and pause offs, meaning ending. It signifies the end of your menstrual cycle, and when you've not had a period for 12 months, then you are in the menopause. It literally lasts for one day because the day after you now move into the post menopause phase.
