Who are you and what is your background?
My name is Simon Waterson. I'm a performance coach primarily in the film, business, entertainment business, A motivator. I look after all aspects of wellness and infrastructure for a majority of actors, athletes, quite high profile clients.
What do you feel people get wrong about mental resilience?
I think building mental resilience is, I think personally it's very personal and not one thing fits everybody, so it can't be too, there's no such thing as generic when it comes to mental health, mental wellbeing. It's more of like find your thing that works for you. I think a lot of people try and emulate a lot of other people. I think the best thing to do is find inspiration from other people, but not emulate your other people and make sure you do what works for you.
How do you train for peak performance without burning out mentally?
I think training for peak performance without burning out, you need to make a patch with yourself from the beginning and make sure that you check in with yourself on a regular basis of things, how you're feeling physically, as well as kind of mentally, and then you can kind of micromanage those between the two, between the physical and between the mental, because what you have prescribed for one day for yourself, it might be physical, you might wake up that morning having not slept, having, I dunno, bad nutrition, having a heated argument or a standoff for someone. And you might have to readjust yourself for that day to do everything that benefits you to put yourself back into a good mental health kind of state of mind.
